Well, the State can’t declare the event illegal, send the police, seize ballots and ballot boxes and shut polling places (all of those, measures I defend)… and then argue that the very low turnout proves that people did not want to vote after all. That logic is perverse.

Of course very few people voted, and of course it’s just a tiny proportion confronting the police. How could be otherwise, given the circumstances?
