I’m getting tired of defending the legitimacy of the current democratic system and the robustness of the rule of law in Spain (cf my article and subsequent responses to comments), but I would hope it is clear by now why what happened last Sunday in Catalonia is very different from what truly repressive states do on a regular basis.
Spain: “full democracy”, score 8.30, #17 in the world.
China: “authoritarian”, score 3.14, #136 in the world.
Russia: “authoritarian”, score 3.24, #134 in the world.
